4 DIMMs are a little harder to get to run at rated speeds than 2 DIMMs (even though you might get lucky and it will work just fine). Infinity Fabric speed is 1/2 of RAM clock, so the faster your RAM clocks, the quicker the IF speed (which speeds inter CCX communications).
